ALMOST NAKED

A limited-edition book has been released in accompaniment to Shen Wei’s exhibition Almost Naked, on view at kunst.licht from September 2008 to December 2008.

An ongoing project of the artist, Almost Naked confronts us with the portrait of strangers, serenely open to us in unsettling intimacy. These subjects – whom the artist prefers to call his “new friends,” rather than his “models” – put forward a tentative but forceful self-statement, yielding with both the tension and ease of nakedness.

This collector’s edition is a signed and numbered portfolio-book housed in a clothbound custom-made box. Each book contains 25 images from the series, printed on 250g matte art paper, and includes an embossed title page, an artist’s statement, a Certificate of Authenticity, and an index page. Each book is signed, numbered, and dated by the artist.

This first edition book by Shen Wei is limited to 218 copies.
